Qatar National Library (QNL), located in the heart of Education City, Doha, is a state-of-the-art, 45,000-square-meter institution designed by renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Officially inaugurated in April 2018, QNL serves as a national, research, and central metropolitan public library, blending heritage preservation with cutting-edge technology to foster learning, innovation, and cultural enrichment for all residents of Qatar.
Architecture and Facilities
The striking diamond-shaped exterior, reminiscent of folded paper, encloses an open-plan interior designed to maximize natural light and visibility, creating an inspiring space where every book is visible and integrated into the architecture. QNL features a rich array of facilities including:

QNL holds over one million print books and more than 500,000 digital resources, including scholarly journals, e-books, newspapers, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks in multiple languages. Its distinguished Heritage Library chronicles Arab-Islamic civilization and Qatar’s history, featuring rare manuscripts, early Arabic printed materials, historical maps, globes, photographs, and scientific instruments. The Qatar Digital Library, a joint initiative with the British Library and Qatar Foundation, makes 1.5 million digitized pages freely accessible to users globally.

Designated as a national library under Amiri Decree and as the IFLA Regional Preservation and Conservation Center, QNL supervises heritage preservation efforts across the MENA region.
